DSC0250 Bottle Post = Flaschenpost (A message in a bottle)

DSC0406 Distance Glasses = Ferngläser (Binoculars)

DSC4296 Dead Trousers = Tote Hose (Nothing’s happening say, at a party)

DSC4295 Meat Bird = Fleischvogel (a favourite form of Swiss sausage – ‘Fleisch‘ is meat and ‘Vogel‘ is a bird))

DSC4390 Sack Street = Sackgasse (Cul-de-sac)

DSC4457 Red Apprentice = Rotstift (‚Stift‘ may be a pen, a pencil or an apprentice and a Rotstift is something used by an accountant to cut costs)

DSC6470 Next To His Shoes = Neben seine Schuhe (Somebody gets out of the wrong side of the bed and is not quite with it yet)

DSC7899 Cups In The Cupboard = Nicht Alle Tassen Im Schrank (A litte bit crazy – not all there)

DSC8163 Blue Making = Blau Machen (In days of old urine used to be used to help make blue dye. Consequently the men involved had to drink huge quantities of beer which, of course, made them drunk and incapable of work on the following day. ‘Blau Machen’ now means to take a day off without permission.

DSC8614 Ear Worm = Ohrwurm (one of those dreadful advertising jingles that goe around and around in one’s head)

DSC8666 Square Rain = Platzregen (A sudden heavy downpour.. Platz can also mean a square in a town – hence ’square rain‘)

DSC8757 Donkey Bridge = Eselsleiter (An ‘Eselsleiter‘ is a means of remembering something – an aid de memoire – this actual bridge is by a Swiss Artist called Not Vital from Sent in Graubünden and is part of a wonderful exhibition)

DSC9514 Shoe Spoon = Schuhlöffel (a shoe horn)

DSC9554 Train Bird = Zugvogel (a migratory bird, but ‘Zug’ is also a ’train’ and ‘Vogel’ is a bird)
