Consequently the men involved had to drink huge quantities of beer which, of course, made them drunk and incapable of work on the following day. ‘Blau Machen’ now means to take a day off without permission.

DSC8666 Square Rain = Platzregen (A sudden heavy downpour.. Platz can also mean a square in a town – hence ’square rain‘)
DSC8757 Donkey Bridge = Eselsleiter (An ‘Eselsleiter‘ is a means of remembering something – an aid de memoire – this actual bridge is by a Swiss Artist called Not Vital from Sent in Graubünden and is part of a wonderful exhibition)
